Celtic look set to replace one Swedish defender with another after being linked with a move for Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Starfelt is poised to seal a £4.3 million switch to Spanish La Liga outfit Celta Vigo after spending two years at Parkhead where he won five out of six domestic trophies on offer.

Now towering Swede Lagerbielke could be the one to fill Stafelt's shoes and be the next central defender to pitch up in Glasgow's East End.

Swedish media outlets have claimed that Celtic have lodged a £3 million bid for the 23-year-old Elfsborg stopper who has been capped once for the national team.

Ironically it is Starfelt's agent Blash Hosseini who seems to be brokering the deal after he took in Elfsborg's 1-0 home win over Sirius last weekend.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed after Saturday's 4-2 Scottish Premiership win over Ross County that Starfelt had likely played his final game for the club and that plans were already in place to bring in a replacement.

Speaking at the weekend about Starfelt's potential exit from Parkhead, Rodgers said: "We would need to get another centre-half. My idea is to get four centre halves who are competitive.”

Elfsborg currently sits top of the Swedish top flight and Lagerbielle has earned himself a reputation for being one of the most commanding and accomplished central defenders in Sweden as he possesses a towering frame and has excellent aerial prowess.

He spent a fair portion of last season on loan at Degerfors but this term has nailed down a spot with Elfsborg.

Lagerbielke has also bagged five headers in the last calendar year which is more than Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers combined have managed.

On the surface, Lagebielke appeared to be something of a rough diamond upon which Rodgers could work his managerial magic and polish up as he certainly ticks a lot of boxes for the Northern Irishman.

Meanwhile Celtic is also being linked with a shock move for a promising Manchester City talent James McAtee.

The Scottish champions are among four clubs reputedly keen to land the 20-year-old playmaker.

McAtee spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and was a standout in the Championship as he helped Paul Heckingbottom's side to Premier League promotion.

Celtic, Wolves, Brighton, and Real Sociedad are all credited as interested parties.

Pep Guardiola's side are reluctant to let him go but could sanction another loan deal in order for him to gain further first-team experience.

The academy graduate has been involved with City's pre-season, scoring in a 2-1 friendly win over Bayern Munich last month.

He was also an unused substitute in the Community Shield loss on penalties to Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday.
