Peter Lawwell has returned to Celtic as the new non-executive chairman.

The 63-year-old also became a director at the club and will take up his new role on January 1 2023. Lawwell previously held the position of the Celtic's chief executive for almost 18 years, before he retired in the summer of 2021.

Meanwhile full-back Alistair Johnston finally put pen to paper on a five-year deal in Glasgow's East end after an impressive showing at the World Cup for Canada as Celtic completed their second deal ahead of the January transfer window opening.

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumais is also reportedly keen on reaching an amicable solution in the alleged contract stalemate which had seen some media outlets suggest that he would be leaving the Hoops next month.

Elsewhere two Celts face the biggest game of their careers as Daizen Maeda and Josip Juranovic go head-to-head today for the right to see whether Croatia and Japan qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals.

Maeda's compatriot Kyogo Furuhashi has also opened up on his Japanese World Cup snub by insisting that he remains fully motivated to score more goals for Celtic and win as many titles as he can.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful stint since joining Celtic from Vissel Kobe in the summer of 2021 and has notched 31 goals in 53 games and become a firm favourite with the Hoops faithful.
