CALLUM MCGREGOR believes that Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery will benefit from being taken under Scott Brown’s wing, just as he was as a young player.
Montgomery, who made 18 first-team appearances for Celtic in the first half of the season, made his Aberdeen debut in the defeat to Livingston at the weekend after joining the Pittodrie club on loan for the rest of the campaign.
He will be ineligible to play against his parent club tonight, but McGregor says he has picked the perfect place to continue his development, with the aid of former Celtic captain Brown.
“Yeah absolutely,” McGregor said. “Monty has come in here and broken into the first team. He’s done ever so well.
“Through no fault of his own there are other players doing well and he’s found himself out on loan, but it’s a brilliant learning curve for him.
“I’m sure Broony will have already spoken to him in that sense and will always be trying to help him so that he sends him back with even more experience.
“It’s a perfect environment for him and I’m sure he’ll be listening to every word that Broony has got for him as well.”
Tonight’s match gives McGregor the chance to lock horns with Brown in the midfield once more, but he has resisted the urge to point out to his old friend that he currently enjoys a record of two wins from two against him since his move to Aberdeen.
“Nah not really!” he said. “We don’t speak before the games or anything like that. We’re both obviously wanting to win the game for our clubs.
“It’s going to be a good battle, he’s obviously a top, top player and has been for many years. He helped me so much in my development as well.
“We’ll always have that mutual respect, but as a sportsman you go on the pitch and you would do anything to win, and so would he.
“We’ll go again [on Wednesday] and hopefully we’ll be the ones with the three points at the end of the night again.”
