Celtic defender Auston Trusty has revealed the harsh lesson that his side have learned from last time out against Aberdeen, as the two sides get set to lock horns again at Hampden on Saturday evening.
Indeed, the Scottish Premiership joint-leaders played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Celtic Park, as Jimmy Thelin’s high-flying side clawed back a two-goal deficit to inflict Brendan Rodgers’ first dropped points of the domestic season.
Last month, Japan duo Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi fired Celtic in front, before Aberdeen’s Ester Sokler and captain Graeme Shinnie completed a 10-minute second-half comeback in Glasgow to share the spoils, with both sides passing up chances to win the contest following the four-goal flurry.
Speaking after his club’s 2-0 win over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday, the USA international admitted that Celtic have used September’s draw as a learning experience for this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup tie. When asked what his side need to do differently this time around, Trusty said: “We need to seal the deal. When you are up 2-0 then you want to seal the deal in the game.
“We’ll go into this game very confident. But if we are in that position again then seal the deal. We approach every game as a challenge so that is going to be the mindset again.
“We don’t take any game easy or lightly. That is about respecting our opponent. But it doesn’t matter who we are playing, we want to go out there and play our game. If we do that, the game takes care of itself.
“You focus on who you are playing against, but you also really focus on within.”
