Joe Hart: Three times the goalkeeper was asked to prove his worth and three times he rose to the occasion. First by parrying a venomous Myrto Uzuni strike in the 23rd minute, then springing to stop a 69th-minute disguised free-kick from the Albanian and then getting Carl Starfelt out of jail by smothering at Uzuni’s feet after the Swede’s short backpass. On such moments does a Celtic keeper’s reputation rest… and Hart once again showed his is currently sky high. 7

Anthony Ralston: Not for the first time this season, the 22-year-old’s combination of anticipation and desire saved Celtic from conceding a potentially damaging goal straight after scoring. Although Ralston started the game with a couple of dawdling moments in his inverted positions, he grew into the occasion and had another good game. The right-back was always on the move and offered himself as an outlet down the right more effectively than winger Liel Abada. Booked for coming to the defence of Kyogo after Sammy Mmaee petulantly kicked out at the Japanese forward. 7

Cameron Carter-Vickers: Allowed Ryan Mmaee to get across the front of him for an early chance that was, thankfully, squandered. On the ball the American displayed some of his passing quality, breaking lines with a few rasping balls through to the attacking midfielders in the opening 45 in particular. Neither he nor defensive partner Carl Starfelt were truly troubled for much of the second half. 6

Carl Starfelt: Followed up a decent display against Motherwell with one that will probably divide opinion once again. The Swede still cuts quite a nervous figure on the ball and often disrupts the flow of Celtic’s attacking play with ponderous episodes (before usually playing it across to Carter-Vickers). Defensively Starfelt dealt with the Hungarians well for the most part although his suspect decision-making - and, admittedly, fatigue - was on show once again in the 87th minute with a poor attempt at a backpass. He was booked – somewhat harshly, given it was his first foul – after failing to chase down his own mis-controlled chest cushion just before the half-hour. 6

Adam Montgomery: His furious burst forward with the ball straight from kick-off set an adventurous tone that he did his best to live up to. Going forward, Montgomery in the main looked to link up with Jota and managed to play the winger into dangerous positions more than once. Yet it was actually his own run into a dangerous position that led to Celtic’s second – an instinctive touch to go beyond Henry Wingo, forcing the defender to take him down for a penalty. He had his troubles too, though. Ferencvaros looked at their most dangerous exploiting the space in behind him while a rushed attempt at a quick free-kick ultimately led to a chance for the Hungarians on the 23rd minute that Hart saved. Taken off for Liam Scales in the 76th minute. 6

Callum McGregor: Ostensibly the deepest of Celtic’s midfielders, the captain was in reality often to be found on the edge of the Ferencvaros area. It was from that position he slipped in Jota for an 11th-minute chance the in-form Portuguese would probably have expected to finish. On the defensive end the skipper made a couple of well-timed slide tackles to disrupt Ferencvaros’ flow at key moments in the first half. It was McGregor who stepped forward to take the spot-kick when Montgomery was fouled on the hour but his attempt was poor and saved with relative ease by Denes Dibusz. He redeemed himself when another timely challenge set up Jota to feed Turnbull for the second. 7

David Turnbull: Plenty of running and a willingness to show for the ball throughout his time on the pitch but little in the way of creativity. His set-pieces were not quite at their usual standard either – that is, until a sumptuous corner in the 76th minute – while he initially fluffed his lines to make it 2-0 before scrapping to push the second goal over the line. Missed a superb chance to grab a second goal late on. 6

Liel Abada: Lumping it clear early on when playing out on the deck was still on probably summed up Abada’s afternoon. The Israeli tried to be direct at times but overall his end product was lacking on this occasion. 5

Tom Rogic: Looked in the mood early on with a couple of crafty runs into space and incisive forward passes. That influence waned as the first half wore on, though, and after the break there were only fleeting glimpses of such creativity before he was withdrawn for Nir Bitton in the 70th minute. 6

Jota: The winger tested Ferencvaros keeper Dibusz in the 11th-minute before forcing him into action again from distance in the 17th.  His movement, in general, posed Ferencvaros a problem and while he drifted out of the reckoning in spells the 22-year-old was always a likely threat when in possession. He proved that shortly after the break when he found Kyogo with a superb pass for the opening goal and then played in Montgomery to win the penalty. At the centre of most of Celtic’s penetrating play, the Portuguese has fast become a fan favourite. 8

Kyogo Furuhashi: Cut an isolated figure during the win over Motherwell and that continued here. The Japan international was caught under the ball from a Jota cross in the 21st minute in what proved to be his only chance of the opening 45 minutes. Kyogo’s lack of service meant he came deep more than once in an attempt to garner some touches, including one dispossession of Samy Mmaee that led the Ferencvaros man to kick out and earn a yellow card. After the break he resumed his seemingly-fruitless task of making runs nobody could find – until Jota split the Hungarian defence with a lofted through ball. Kyogo did not need to be asked twice, controlling the ball expertly without breaking stride before finishing calmly for his ninth goal of the season. After being shifted out wide on the introduction of Giorgos Giakoumakis, Kyogo put in a decent cross for the Greek before coming off for Mikey Johnston. 6

Substitutes

Giorgos Giakoumakis (for Abada 70): Could not get the purchase required on a headed chance from a sweet Turnbull corner five minutes after entering the fray. Showed some effective hold-up play in his 20-minute cameo – including a smashing bit of control with his chest under pressure from the defender before attempting an overhead kick. That chest control was on display again in the dying stages to buy a foul and ease some of the late pressure. A different option who played his part well. 5

Nir Bitton (for Rogic 70): His first pass went straight out the park but after that the Israeli settled well and was an assured presence at the base of midfield. 5

Liam Scales (for Montgomery 76): Slotted in for Montgomery on the left and played a couple of decent passes up the line in his short spell on the pitch. 4

Mikey Johnston (for Kyogo 86): Three direct runs caused Ferencvaros problems with the second setting up Jota for a gilt-edged chance late on. A lively appearance and a man who looks like he knows he has something to prove. 5
