Giakoumakis starts, he scores
The striker’s first start since he was signed from VVV Venlo in summer. And it couldn’t have gone much better as he celebrated a goal in front of the huge home crowd. It was a tidy finish from close range, and was put on a plate from Ralston. His positioning was spot on though. As many retired strikers will tell you, the best place to be is in between the posts ready to finish off. He didn’t feature greatly in other aspects of his game, mind you. But his effort was certainly there for all to see as he got some much-needed minutes under his belt.
Rogic form
Everyone is well aware of how good Tom Rogic is on his day. But his game has been littered with inconsistencies in recent years, mainly down to injury, forcing him to sit lengthy spells on the sidelines. He bossed the midfield in this one though. His touch brilliantly allowed him to dink one way and then the other. He didn’t do anything outstanding, but his link up play and passing with fellow attackers Jota, Kyogo and Giakoumakis was impressive. Ange appears to be getting the Aussie international back to his best. This must be pleasing for all of a Celtic persuasion.
Shoring up at the back
Carl Starfelt had a shaky start to life at Celtic Park. Days after signing, he was thrown straight into the side on the opening day as Hearts put the Hoops to the sword. He made a glaring positional error on that day and has made a few since. Cameron Carter-Vickers was drafted in on loan from Tottenham to help Ange shore up the defence. And on the last three displays against Motherwell, Ferencvaros and now Saints, it appears to be working. He and Starfelt cleared everything that came there way and were tidy yet convincing in possession. Chris Kane can be a tricky costumer, but neither centre-half allowed him a sniff.
