Three burning Celtic issues as new signings shine in win over Hibs

Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate were handed their first starts for Celtic at Parkhead and were two of the best on the pitch in the 2-0 win over Hibs.

Maeda took just three minutes to open his account as he stroked home his first chance in the Hoops - and Hatate thrilled supporters with his attack-minded play.

While Maeda opened the scoring it was Hatate who would steal the show as he threaded through intricate through balls, showed of a terrific range of passing and even came close to scoring with an excellent controlled half-volley from the edge of the box.

Yosuke Ideguchi made his debut from the bench in the final stages of the match and was assured in the midfield. Ange Postecoglou will be delighted with the impact of his new signings after just 90 minutes.

SQUAD BOOST

There were times before the winter break where Celtic looked weak with injuries ruling out a large chunk of players. But tonight this was a side full of quality.

Not only were the three new boys involved but Jota was back in the squad, James Forrest started, Joe Hart returned in goal and Greg Taylor was at left-back.

It was a vastly improved performance from some of those before the winter break, and now Celtic look a real strong squad with players returning and the new signings settling well.

Giorgos Giakoumakis was another back involved after injury and with David Turnbull, Chrstopher Jullien and Kyogo still to make their comebacks, Postecoglou will be much happier with his squad depth.

MINOR DEFENSIVE MISHAP

For much of the match at Celtic Park it was the hosts who were in control of proceedings. But within the opening minutes there was a major wake-up call.

Martin Boyle's drive and cross into the box found Kevin Nisbet who managed to hit the post from close range with the goal gaping.

It was a major let-off for Celtic and they made Hibs pay for the mistake, but on another day it could've left them with a deficit to overcome.
