FORMER Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has worked his magic to make sure Masters football will make its long-awaited comeback in Glasgow.
And the treble-winning Hoops coach and former Republic of Ireland manager can’t wait to see some of football’s golden oldies strut their stuff in the city on 8th July.
Masters football will return after an 11-year hiatus in a special new event at the Braehead Arena, with Celtic, Rangers, Manchester United and Liverpool all competing.
“You can't get any bigger rivalries than between Celtic and Rangers and Man United and Liverpool,” said O’Neill, who won eight trophies in a glittering spell at Celtic Park.
"It's going to be brilliant that Masters Football is coming back to our screens.
"I can't wait for it to come back to Glasgow where I have many happy memories and many friends.
"It's great that the fans will be able to watch such an iconic tournament once again with such fabulous football heritage.
"I'm looking forward to being in Glasgow in July, it should be a really fantastic evening.”
O’Neill has worked closely with his good friend, the former England, Arsenal and Notts Forest star Tony Woodcock to bring the iconic competition back for the first time since 2011.
Two-time European Cup winner Woodcock, O’Neill and ex-Liverpool and England ace Adam Lallana have all worked on the exciting project, with a string of top names, including Paul Scholes, Wes Brown and Steve McManaman having already been recruited for the star-studded six-a-side event.
“Masters football was always pioneering,” added Woodcock. “It will be a superb viewer experience.”
Masters football originally ran from 2000-2011 on Sky Sports, with football legends Roy Keane, Ian Rush, Bryan Robson, Ally McCoist, Matt Le Tissier and Andy Cole having all rolled back the years with their dazzling skills.
Football fans can watch this year’s competition on 360SportsTV, an online subscription platform incorporating www.360sportstelevision.co.uk.
