NEIL LENNON is still on the lookout for an assistant manager at Omonoia Nicosia after a propsed deal to bring Mark Fotheringham with him to Cyprus collapsed.

Lennon had been out of work since leaving Parkhead last year until he was named as Omonia manager on Tuesday afternoon.

The Northern Irishman had approached Fotheringham about the opportunity to work as his No2 but the former Celtic midfielder has revealed that talks have broken down.

"Neil made contact at the start of the weekend and said that he wanted me to join him," Fotheringham told the Scottish Sun.

"He liked my coaching experience and especially that I’d spent time in Cyprus with Famagusta.

"Omonia started talks with my representative for me to go there and be Neil’s assistant. But, unfortunately, we couldn’t reach an agreement, the figures weren’t right.

"It would’ve been a great opportunity for me to work with Neil. It was a big compliment that he wanted me to join him.

"I’ve had some great times at Ingolstadt with Tomas Oral and I really hope we’ll be working together again very soon. But Tomas gave me his blessing to go to Cyprus.

"I was excited about the idea of going back to Cyprus because I have wonderful memories of playing for Anorthosis Famagusta. It’s a great place to play football and to live.

"I holiday there every year with my family and I’ve got plenty of friends on the island. But the contract had to be right for me – and I’m disappointed we couldn’t reach an agreement.

"I would’ve loved the chance to work with Neil. No matter where he goes, he makes a big impact immediately. His teams like to play on the front foot, they are aggressive.

"Omonia are going to love that style of football.

"Neil wants to play what I would call 'rock ‘n’ roll football' where the team’s on the front foot and penetrates. I’m sure he will make a good impact at Omonia – and I wish him all the best."
