ANGE POSTECOGLOU says ‘the door will always be open’ for Scott Brown at Celtic as he addressed reports that the former captain could be in line for a return to the club in a coaching capacity.
Brown left Aberdeen earlier this week, and while not confirming that he would be looking to hang up his boots permanently just yet, a statement from the Pittodrie club said the decision was ‘to allow him to focus on his coaching development with a view to taking the first steps in his managerial career.’
Reports have suggested that Celtic may be willing to offer Brown an opportunity to take that next step in his coaching journey, and Postecoglou says he is more than open to the idea of having such a legend of the club return in such a capacity.
“I obviously didn’t come across Scott,” Postecoglou said. “I admired him from afar in terms of the impact he had on this football club.
“Having been at this football club for the last eight or nine months, I’ve just been speaking to everyone around the place about him. They couldn’t speak more highly of him. Not just as a player but as a person.
“He’s an outstanding individual and he’s left an enormous legacy at this football club. He’ll go down as one of the greats, absolutely.
“I’m sure the door will always be open for a Scott Brown at this football club. What that looks like in terms of his future, that’s a question for him, mate. That’s a question for what he wants to do with his post-playing life.
“As I said, he will be one of the greats of this football club, he’s left a massive legacy and I’m sure the door will always be open for him.
“I don’t know him well enough and haven’t spoken to him to know what his plans are and what he thinks about it.
“There are different schools of thought. He knows this football club so well. Maybe that’s a reason he went to Aberdeen because he wanted to experience another football club.
“Not every football club is like this one. And his first job might not be here, it might be somewhere else and you can’t just expect that everything will be the same.
“It depends on the individual with those kinds of things. I haven’t had a long chat with Scott about his future and I’m sure he has with people who are close to him.
“He’ll be the best one to chart a course for him in terms of what he wants to do next.”
