Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy could miss out on the FC Midtjylland job after it was revealed the Danish club are in talks with Barcelona academy figure Albert Capellas.

A report from the outlet B.T., which is based in Denmark, has revealed that representatives of the former league winners travelled to Spain for discussions with the 54-year-old.

Midtjylland are currently being managed by interim boss Henrik Jensen and sit eighth in the Danish Superliga.

They knocked out the Bhoys from last season's Champions League qualifiers to secure Europa League football, but despite this, the previous manager Bo Henriksen was given his marching orders.

Now it appears his replacement is closer to being identified, and it seems like that will not be the former Scotland international.

Previously, Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou pledged he wouldn't stand in Kennedy's way if he was offered the job.

"He’s no different to anyone else at this football club. If people identify him as someone who can help their organisation, then it’s up to the individuals to make those decisions," he said.

"John is a really important part of what we do here. He’s an important part of my setup. He leads a lot of the areas with respect to our football, so he’s a valuable asset to this club."
