Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed the performance from Aaron Mooy that sealed his transfer to the Hoops.
The 57-year-old watched the ex-Brighton man in action during Australia's play-off for the World Cup, and the way in which he performed was enough to convince the former Socceroos coach to recruit him.
He was not put off by the fact the midfielder had barely played any competitive football since leaving Chinese Super League side Shanghai Port and that he was a free agent.
The player has settled into the swing of things at the Hoops so far.
Speaking to outlet 10 Football, Postecoglou said: “With Aaron, I signed him pretty much on the back of him being the best player in the ground against Peru (during Australia’s World Cup play-off).
“He hadn’t played for ages before that. I’ve always known he’s a great player, I’ve worked with him.
"I just felt he still has plenty in him, and since he’s been with us, he has built his fitness up, and he’s going really well.
“I think he’s one who can make an impact (for Australia at the World Cup).”
