Aaron Mooy has credited Celtic and Champions League football with helping secure his place at Qatar 2022.

The 32-year-old midfielder was named in the Australia squad earlier this week and is set to appear at his second World Cup when the tournament kicks off later in November.

He became a free agent in July after leaving Chinese Super League side Shanghai Port but it wasn't long before Ange Postecoglou snapped him up on a two-year deal.

The former Brighton and St Mirren star was always a likely pick for the Socceroos but believes signing for the Scottish champions has kept him at the forefront of manager Graham Arnold's thinking.

He said: "Yeah, I am definitely looking forward to it. I am very proud to be selected in the squad.

"It is an opportunity that does not come round all that often as it's only every four years that there is a World Cup and there is no guarantees that you are going to be at a World Cup.

"It's a very special thing and I am looking forward to it a lot.

The Australian insists he's joined a tight-knit squad and that the congratulations came rolling in from his team-mates following the big announcement.

But before he embarks for the Middle East, he is fully focused on ensuring the league leaders sign off with another victory as they host Ross County on Saturday.

"Everyone is happy and bubbly all the time and it is a good group to be around," he continued

"Everyone has been wishing me and the other lads well. We've had a very busy schedule and had so many games recently and we have just been focusing on the games really one by one. "
