Celtic forward Daizen Maeda is keen to avoid a repeat of the mistakes that the Hoops made during their Champions League campaign ahead of the World Cup.

The former Yokohama F Marinos player is set to represent Japan at the tournament in Qatar, and he has made clear he does not want to fall victim to the same problems he did in Europe for Ange Postecoglou's side this season.

The Scottish champions finished with two points out of a possible 18 in a group that contained Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.

While there were some positive performances during the six fixtures, Maeda and his teammates were disappointed with the final standings.

He told Japanese outlet KKT : "I was able to learn about the world level in the Champions League before the World Cup, so even though we didn't win, I think I got a lot out of it.

"I want to use the experience I gained in the Champions League to help me in this World Cup.

"We didn't take our chances and the other team did.

"I don't think we will have many chances at the World Cup, but we can't win unless we take that one shot, and I think we can ride the wave if we do, so I want to make every one of them count."

Japan are in a group with Spain, Costa Rica and Germany.
