Giorgos Giakoumakis is reportedly set to leave Celtic in January.

Talks between the club and the Greek striker over a new and improved contract have broken down.

The Daily Record say the Scottish champions have been unable to reach an agreement with the 27-year-old over a new deal.

Negotiations between both parties have been ongoing for a while now. 

However, this report states that unless there is 'a significant change of heart' from either side then a January sale will be on the cards.

It means the Hoops will be faced with a similar situation with the striker as they are with Croatia right-back Josip Juranovic.

It appears they are ready to cash in on both players.

Giakoumakis is still under contract until 2026. 

But he is said to be unhappy that a new deal on improved terms cannot be agreed.

It's believed that the forward dropped his wage demands significantly to make the move from VVV-Venlo last summer.

It's reported that this was on the understanding his wages would be improved if he had a successful first season in Scottish football.

So, while a pay rise has been offered by Celtic, they are still some way short of where Giakoumakis and his representatives believe his salary should be.

He bagged 17 goals for the club in his debut campaign last year. 

The hitman has eight goals so far this season as second choice behind Kyogo.

Postecoglou has made it clear that if players are not happy at Celtic then he will not stand in his way.
