Kyogo Furuhashi has revealed his motivation to perform for Celtic after his shock international snub for Japan this summer.
The Parkhead striker was left out of his national team's plans for the World Cup in Qatar and he spoke of his frustrations after the squad was announced.
Only Daizen Maeda of Celtic was called up for Japan, but they have starred with wins over Spain and Germany cementing a spot in the last 16 of the tournament.
They are preparing for to take on Croatia today, but Kyogo admits it has been mixed feelings watching his country compete on the greatest football stage of them all.
He told The Athletic: “My family and friends have been very supportive.
"Even though they're not all here in Glasgow, they've been a huge support to me and I think a player with that experience can only get stronger.
"I would like to develop further and I will also come out of this experience strengthened.
"I haven't talked much to other Japanese players about the nomination this time.
"I briefly congratulated Daizen Maeda and immediately focused on the next game with Celtic.
"Either way, my motivation remains the same: I want to score as many goals as possible for my club and do my best so that our club wins games, and as many titles as possible.
"The World Cup would have been an extension of my way with our club.
"That's why my ambition—whether with or without the national team — remains unchanged."
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful stint since joining Celtic from Vissel Kobe in the summer of 2021. During that time he has notched 31 goals in 53 games and firmly become a favourite with supporters.
