St Johnstone midfielder David Wotherspoon has revealed what Celtic supporters can expect from new signing Alistair Johnston.

The two are team-mates with Canada and both featured at the World Cup in Qatar.

Johnston has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Scottish champions.

He is the second signing Ange Postecoglou has made ahead of the January transfer window opening after already securing the signature of Japanese centre-back Yuki Kobayashi.

The 24-year-old will give the Parkhead side another option at right-back and provide cover should Josip Juranovic move on.

Wotherspoon feels Johnston will be an ideal fit for the Bhoys.

He said: “He spoke to me about the move a lot and I told him it was a no-brainer.

"Celtic are a massive club. He’s a great guy first and foremost and a great defender.

“You’ve seen in the World Cup what he can do and I think he’s one of those types of defenders Celtic fans will love.

“Alistair is robust and Mr Consistent. He has the attributes to do well in Scottish football.

“He’ll be tested in Europe as well, of course.

“The fact he’s played at the highest level of international football now will stand him in good stead.

"I’m looking forward to seeing him when he comes across and looking forward to playing against him hopefully as well."

In terms someone who could be the third signing of the January window, the Hoops have been handed a boost in their pursuit of South Korean World Cup hero Cho Gue-sung after his father advised him to go to a club that suits his style after revealing transfer negotiations are almost complete.

The Bhoys have been linked with the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker, who bowed out of the Qatar tournament this week after South Korea were battered by Brazil.

Fenerbahce and Rennes have also been linked with the 24-year-old and his dad, Cho Chae-hwan, was interviewed in his homeland's television channels about what the future holds for his son.

He said: "The advice I have given my son is when he signs for a team abroad, go to a club that can play the way he likes, rather than choosing a club because they are a big name.

"He needs a club that will help him adapt and settle down to a new lifestyle on and off the pitch."
