Celtic's latest signing Alistair Johnston has been compared to club legend Danny McGrain.

The person to make this comparison is former Canada international (and Rangers player) Colin Miller.

The 58-year-old feels that the right-back has all of the attributes to go right to the top of the game and that he is not too dissimilar to one of the Hoops' most famous full-backs.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: "I’ve seen a lot of Alistair and I like what I see.

"He’s everything you would expect in a modern full-back.

"He certainly enjoys joining in the attack, is quick and aggressive as hell and will get stuck into challenges.

“He has a terrific attitude, a very humble guy and is smart too.

"I asked a couple of staff members this week what he was like and they said he is a great team-mate, just a good lad to have around the dressing room.

"I’m sure he will suit an Ange Postecoglou team. He’s very consistent.

"The fact Celtic maintain a lot of possession on the ball then it’s important he is clean with the ball. And he is.

“Does he remind me of anyone? Danny McGrain. And you won’t get much better than that.

"I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself because we are speaking about a Celtic legend.

"But if he comes remotely close to Danny’s level then the Celtic fans will be delighted."

The Canadian international scored four goals and provided four assists in 39 appearances for CF Montreal in the season that has just included.

After agreeing a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Scottish champions, the 24-year-old told Celtic TV: “When a club like Celtic comes calling, it will turn any footballer’s head, and especially for myself, growing up in a British household, Celtic was one of the clubs that is near and dear to our hearts.

"Just to hear that this was a club that was interested in me, and to see the project the coaching staff have and the progress that this team and this club continues to make in Europe as well, it’s really exciting."
