Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers will not be suspended for the upcoming derby against Rangers even if he is booked in the next match against Hibernian.

The 24-year-old has received four yellow cards in the Scottish Premiership this season.

They came against the Light Blues in September's 4-0 thrashing, away to St Johnstone in a 2-1 victory, at Almondvale against Livingston in October and in the most recent fixture on Christmas Eve.

There had been growing concern expressed by fans that the USA international could miss the Ibrox clash should he be cautioned at Easter Road.

However, a player must be booked six times in a competition before they could then be ruled out of a game, according to the SFA guidelines.

They state that the: "Accumulation of six cautionable offences in the same competition [leads to] one match dated suspension [for every further accumulation of six cautionable offences the suspension applied will be extended by one match]."

Additionally, the suspension activates 14 days after the date on which a player picked up their sixth yellow.

Meanwhile, Anthony Ralston is in a fitness sweat to return for the match.

The full-back had been forced off against Livingston with a suspected back problem.

Reo Hatate deputised at right-back and netted twice against the Perth Saints.

Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has since stated: "We will see. There was improvement yesterday and there was improvement today. We obviously have an extra day's break for this game, so we will assess it as we go along.

"We’ll see with Tony, we’ll give him every chance. We know what Tony’s like, he’ll give himself every chance."
