Former Celtic right-back Jeremie Frimpong has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz asked him about the Hoops when he first joined the club.

The Dutchman signed for the Bundesliga side in January 2021 and has since become an important part of Xabi Alonso's team.

And the defender has opened up on his friendship with the Germany international.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Relevo, he said: "On a day-to-day basis, he’s (Wirtz) exactly how you see him on the pitch.

"He is impressive. He plays like he’s been playing for 10 years. He’s intelligent. He’s also a great person.

"He was the first one who took care of me when I arrived at the club: he was my first friend.

"Flo asked me about Celtic, invited me to his house, we would go out for dinner.

"He did things to make me feel at home."

Meanwhile, ex-Celtic star Patrick Roberts has opened up on his friendship with Kieran Tierney.

Both men were close during their two-and-a-half seasons together at the club and the Englishman has detailed the bond they shared.

Roberts is currently on the books of English Championship side Sunderland while Tierney is at Arsenal.

And the forward has nothing but good things to say about the Scotland international.

He told the Celtic View podcast: "When he came in, he was only my age and he came through as a home-grown player.

"I came from Man City so we had different journeys. I sat beside him in the changing room and we got on well.

"I could see what he was like as a personality - he got my banter and I got his. We made a great friendship off the pitch and on the pitch as well.

"We got on really well, enjoyed each others company and it was the same with some of the other lads.

"I used to live downstairs from Nir Bitton, who helped me settle in as he'd been there for a long time. Everybody there was great with me and made my time enjoyable off the pitch - as well as on it."
