Ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes the gap between the Hoops and Rangers will only continue to "widen" going forward.

Ange Postecoglou's side are currently 12 points clear in the Scottish Premiership and recently defeated the Ibrox side at Hampden to clinch the League Cup for the second season in a row.

Both teams are set to meet at the national stadium once again at the end of the month as they face off in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

And McAvennie feels that finances, as well as recruitment, will help Celtic stay clear of their Glasgow rivals.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: " I think it (the gap) is going to get worse. It is only going to widen

"Celtic have got money and I don’t think Rangers have, at least not the money they would like to put into their team.

Ange has been called lucky off Michael Beale but he has bought players that nobody knows about.

"He was getting pelters off the Rangers supporters but they have come in and every one of them has been outstanding."

Meanwhile, former Celtic defender Josip Juranovic has sent a classy message to Joe Hart on his 36th birthday.

The two won a double together last season as part of a successful first campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

And despite the Croatia international departing for Union Berlin during the January transfer window, he was keen to let the Englishman know he was thinking of him.

The Bundesliga right-back posted a photo of himself and Hart on his Instagram story with the caption: "Brother! I wish you all the best! Today is your day! See you soon!"
