Celtic’s summer plans for pre-season look set to be announced imminently, according to press reports in Asia.

Japan Times journalist Dan Orlowitz, who has broken numerous Celtic stories in the past two years with regard to talent from the continent, has hinted that the Glasgow side look to be headed to more than one destination in Asia this summer, rather than just Japan, as was originally rumoured.

Orlowitz tweeted: “So whatever Celtic were originally going to announce today isn’t happening for Reasons, but I’ve got this pretty much confirmed:”, alongside a cross emoji next to the sole Japan side and a circle for the Japanese and South Korean flag next to each other, insinuating where the club were going this summer ahead of the new season.

This comes off the back of Hoops chief executive Michael Nicholson being photographed with former midfielder Ki Sung-yueng last week. Ki, 34, now plays for FC Seoul in his homeland, which sparked rumours online of a possible pre-season encounter between the two sides or any other K1 League team in the country.

The ex-Swansea City, Sunderland and Newcastle United player was a popular player during his time with the Bhoys, winning a league title and Scottish Cup in his time up north. He made 66 appearances for Celtic, scoring 11 goals in all competitions, including a memorable long-range effort against Motherwell in the 2011 Scottish Cup final.

Celtic currently have seven Asian players on their books such as Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu from Japan and South Korea respectively. Current Hoops manager Ange Postecoglou, 57, also has links with the continent, having managed J1 League side Yokohama F Marinos from 2018 to 2021, where he won the league in 2019 in his second season at the Japanese club.

This Asia tour would come off the back of a successful trip to Australia for Celtic, which transpired in November during the World Cup international break. They played A-League hosts Sydney FC and Premier League side Everton in the Sydney Super Cup, as the team upped their preparations ahead of the resumption of the current season in December last year.
