Chris Sutton has savaged appeals for a Rangers penalty after Connor Goldson went down in the box against Kilmarnock.

The former Celtic striker slammed the suggestion a spot-kick could have been awarded after the Ibrox defender went to ground under a challenge from Stuart Findlay.

Despite appeals for a penalty, Willie Collum was unmoved at Rugby Park as he waved play on.

And Sutton is certain the referee called the situation perfectly but admitted Findlay did run the risk of conceding a soft penalty.

On Sky Sports, after being asked whether there was potential for a penalty award, Sutton said: "Come on! His (Findlay's)arms are out but if you look at Connor Goldson, he's already on his way down. That's called a dive.

"Findlay is running the risk of giving a penalty away but Goldson goes down too easily.

"Willie Collum gets that one bang on."

Rangers hero Kris Boyd appeared to agree a penalty would have been a harsh decision, but insisted similar incidents have results in a spot-kick in the past.

He explained: "It's a contact sport and as you say Goldson is on his way down. Have we seen them given in the past? Yes.

"Every time the ball goes into the box we can't be asking for a penalty, it can't happen."

Meanwhile, Carl Starfelt could have played his final match for Celtic amid reported interest from La Liga side Celta Vigo.

Brendan Rodgers said: “I wanted to put Carl Starfelt on, it might be his last appearance here.

“There has been interest for him and he wants to take up that possibility.

“We will resolve that as quick as we can. I thought it would be nice for him to get maybe a final appearance at Celtic Park. 

“The clubs are in communication. I’m sure that will go through early part of next week, if not before.

“Clearly he probably felt it was the time to move on."
