Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he will not go out of his own way to convince a player to join his ranks in January.

The Northern Irishman will be hoping for some new recruits to arrive at the club in the winter transfer window, but he has stopped short of rolling out the red carpet for any player needing any sort of reassurance about signing for the champions.

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s game on Saturday against Motherwell at Celtic Park, Rodgers said: “There’s been many players and managers that whilst they’ve been here - and it’s sometimes only when you are here - that you get that sense of that.

“It’s always the challenge because lots of players may want to play in a more competitive league or one of the renowned leagues but I think what Celtic offers here is really unique in terms of the opportunity to come and play for a fanatical fan base.

“We always work hard but we won’t beg players to come. This is an incredible club to come and play for, and if you’re lucky enough to come here and work then you’ll get the sense of that. That’s something that’s ongoing.

Celtic were victorious last time, putting six goals past Aberdeen, on what was a miserable return to Glasgow for former player Barry Robson. This week, he will be up against Stuart Kettlewell, a manager under pressure due to a barren run of results, including a late 2-1 defeat to their opponents at Fir Park in the pair’s last meeting.
