Liam Scales has revealed there has been "nothing really" in terms of contract talks at Celtic despite Brendan Rodgers suggesting discussions were underway.

The centre-back has been a key player for Celtic this season after being unsure of his future at the club in the summer.

After a number of injuries in defence, Scales stepped into the team and never dropped out due to consistent performances this season.

And Rodgers previously admitted he'd been keen to deal Scales a new contract at Parkhead after his emergence into the first-team.

The Celtic boss even suggested earlier this month that club chiefs were in talks with Scales' representatives.

However, Scales explained there has been "nothing really of note" regarding a new contract as of yet.

"There’s been nothing really of note, it's been quiet enough" admitted Scales. "I’m sure that if it happens my agent will be dealing with that and I’ll be playing my games."

Earlier this month, Rodgers said: “I believe the club is in talks with Liam’s agent and he’s really happy because he’s playing.

"I’m sure that will get sorted out in due course. It’s been an amazing story for him.

“Getting our business done early is something that’s important for us but it’s never straightforward in January trying to get good players in.

"Sometimes you can be working on something for three or four months then it changes.

"We know what we want to do over the course of January and the summer and I’m sure we’ll get them in quickly.”
