Celtic have been linked with a shock move for a former Hibernian attacker.

Abdellah Zoubir spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Easter Road, making 16 appearances in total for the capital club.

The Frenchman, 32, is out of contract at FC Qarabag this summer and is believed to be attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe. 

He is able to sign a pre-contract with any interested party under freedom of contract rules.

And reports have suggested that Celtic are one of the clubs that hold an interest.

L'Equipe have linked the Scottish champions with a move for Zoubir.

They will face stiff competition though, as German side Augsburg is also interested, while an unnamed French club is also keeping tabs on him.

The Azerbaijani champions are desperate to tie down their star man on a new deal.

He has scored 11 goals for Qarabag this season but is believed to be on the lookout for a new challenge.

Zoubir was a standout in his side's Europa League play-off last week. He scored twice and assisted one as they caused an upset in Portugal by beating Brage 4-2 on their own patch.

The Azerbaijan side are now favourites to progress to the last-16 stage, where they could meet Rangers.

Meanwhile, Frank McAvennie insists Rangers are 'not a good team' despite Philippe Clement's side leapfrogging Celtic at the top of the Premiership.

Macca's former side has struggled in recent months domestically. Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Kilmarnock was the fourth time the champions have dropped points at Celtic Park this season.

The Hoops had a seven-point lead over Rangers when Clement arrived in Glasgow in October, however, this has now been overturned, with the Ibrox club still in Europe, the last eight of the Scottish Cup and having bagged one trophy already this campaign.
