John McGlynn has given an insight into Celtic's recruitment system, opening up on his time working at the club.

The current Falkirk boss previously worked for the Scottish champions as a scout and opposition analyst during Brendan Rodgers' first spell in charge.

And he detailed his previous role at Parkhead.

Speaking to Open Goal, he said: "I got an interview and I got the job. So it was scouting and we were all over the place.

"But I enjoyed it. It was really, really good and a great insight into working with the guys within that in the background of that as to how much work goes into how they look at players.

"Now when I went in there it was the January of 2015 and that was when they signed Gary Mackay-Steven, Stuart Armstrong and Nadir Ciftci.

"That was just happening just as I kind of got employed there. So it was great to see how in-depth they were analysing Armstrong and Mackay-Steven and Ciftci against players and comparing them as to what they’re going to bring.

"I dare say the manager or maybe John Park would have to put that to the board to say this is why we want to bring these players into the football club."

McGlynn, who has also had spells in charge of Hearts, Livingston and Raith Rovers, worked closely with Rodgers during his first spell in charge.

"Recruitment for the first-team (was my job). Every weekends, not only weekends but midweek games you're away watching," he continued.

"When Brendan came in I moved out of recruitment and into opposition analysis. That was his decision. Did we hit it off right away? Yeah. Yeah, I think so!

"He did eventually remember me from Anfield and the Hearts game, so you come in at the time it's Champions League.

"We were in a group with Man City, then there was Barcelona, Borussia Monchengladbach, then there was Anderlecht and PSG, I'd go watch the youth game in the afternoons and do a little report for Shaun Maloney and whoever else."
