Motherwell talent Lennon Miller has revealed what Brendan Rodgers said to him after his dazzling display against the champions on Sunday.

The Celtic manager made a beeline for the teenager after his side's 3-1 victory at Fir Park at the weekend.

The 17-year-old made the headlines for his stunning half-turn to skip away from Hoops captain Callum McGregor and Matt O'Riley before teeing up Blair Spittal to open the scoring for the Steelmen.

His lovely bit of skill has earned praise from fans and various pundits, with Charlie Mulgrew calling on either Celtic or Rangers to do all they can to sign the Scotland Under-19 international.

Now, asked about what Rodgers said to him, Miller revealed the Irishman's well-wishes. 

He said: “He just said ‘well done’ and ‘good luck for the season’. It’s nice to get recognition from the people who have had such a good career in the game.

"I don’t really look at social media, it doesn’t really affect me. I just need to show what the manager what I can do each day in training and on a Saturday.”

Asked specifically about his genius play in the build-up to Motherwell's goal, Miller insists it was far from planned.

“No, it was just purely instinctive," he replied when asked if he'd tried it in training. "I got the ball on my left foot so it was a bit like a shock! It was nice to get the assist and the finish was excellent from Blair.

“I like watching your De Bruynes, when I was younger it was Iniesta and Xavis. Possession-based midfielders. It’s what I enjoy, getting on the ball and showing what I can do. I felt like I did ok against Celtic but it was gutting not to get the three points

“Obviously the turn was going to get all the headlines but I feel like I’ve played better this season and I was a wee bit sloppy at times and could have kept the ball a bit better.”
