Gordon Strachan delivered a hilarious speech at the Celtic player of the year awards as he poked fun at Matt O'Riley's X-rated interview on Sky Sports.

The former Celtic manager hailed O'Riley's TV slip-up as he mentioned "balls" and "s***" in the same post-match interview.

O'Riley - who scooped a host of awards at the club night hosted at the Hydro - was saluted for "some going" in his X-rated interview that Strachan branded the "highlight" of the day.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Rangers, O'Riley had said: "It's very important, with two games left. We're six points clear. Not much more to say.

"I think we made it a little bit hard for ourselves again. I probably helped with that with a pretty s*** penalty."

On his penalty miss, he added: "Too much, to be honest. I practiced it yesterday and I probably just got in two minds when I was over it.

"So, more to learn from again. I won't do that again.

"I kind of had a plan - I was waiting for him (Butland) to move. He stayed for quite a long time. Yeah, I probably needed to have slightly bigger balls than I did."

As he collected an award on behalf of Shinsuke Nakamura, Strachan had the 11,000-strong audience in fits of laughter as he teased O'Riley.

And the former Celtic boss joked he was just waiting on the midfielder to say "get it up ye" or "f***" to round off the viral interview.

Strachan said: "I actually thought the highlight of the day was Matt O'Riley's interview.

"To get balls and s*** in an interview, that's some going.

"I was watching with Mrs Strachan and we love James Forrest, he was fantastic yesterday, but we didn't really want to listen to James, we wanted Matt to get the mic back again.

"I was hoping for a 'Get it up ye' or 'F***' or something! So, well done Matt."
