Giorgos Giakoumakis is on the move again just 15 months after departing Celtic for Atlanta United.

The Hoops sold the 29-year-old to the MLS outfit for a mere £3.5million in March 2023 and his next club are about to splash out almost double that fee to land the striker's services.

It's believed that the Greece internationalist, who has netted 24 times from 43 appearances in the USA, has agreed a £7.8million switch which will see him join Mexican Liga MX giants Cruz Azul.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that Giakoumakis will complete a medical next week before his official unveiling.

In a post on X, he wrote: "Giōrgos Giakoumakīs to Cruz Azul, here we go! Deal in place for $10m guaranteed fee. Medical test and travel due to take place next week. All approved by Atlanta United tonight, contract valid until 2028 for Giakoumakīs in Mexico — it’s all agreed with his agent Blash Hosseini."

It comes in a sense of a U-turn since Giakoumakis openly committed his future to Atlanta during an interview six weeks go.

Throughout that discussion over where he sees his career going, he claimed: “As long as the team respects me and makes me feel important, this is my home. I don’t think about any other club.”
