Kasper Schmeichel is reportedly set to undergo a Celtic medical this weekend.

The former Leicester goalkeeper is closing in on a move to Parkhead this summer.

Schmeichel, 37, is a free agent after leaving Anderlecht and has emerged as a top candidate to succeed Joe Hart as Celtic No1.

Speculation last night claimed Schmeichel was in negotiations with Celtic over a move - and Sky Sports now report a medical has been set for the coming days.

Journalist Anthony Joseph states: "Celtic are closing in on the signing of Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

"It’s understood the 37-year-old has agreed terms to join the Scottish champions.

"Schmeichel, who left Anderlecht this summer, is due to complete a medical this weekend."

Brendan Rodgers currently has Scott Bain and Benji Siegrist under contract at Celtic but it's thought he is keen to sign a new first-choice keeper.

Schmeichel, son of Manchester United hero Peter, began his career at Manchester City.

After a series of loan spells, including one at Falkirk, he moved to Notts County and then Leeds.

Schmeichel would then settle at Leicester City where he would win the Championship, Premier League, FA Cup and FA Community Shield.

The goalkeeper captained Leicester for a period under Rodgers in 2021/22 before moving to Nice and then spending a season at Anderlecht.

He had signed a one-year deal with the Belgian club but is now a free agent.
