Celtic legend Neil Lennon is on the brink of leaving Rapid Bucharest.

Reports in Romania claim that a parting of the ways is due to be announced today, with an official announcement on his sacking expected soon.

Digi Sport claims the 53-year-old will leave due to poor results after just six games so far this season, as well as some of the Irishman's comments in the press upsetting club chiefs.

Lennon - who signed a two-year deal at Rapid in May - will be relieved of his duties before this Friday's match with Poli Iasi.

It's claimed by the media outlet that Rapid will pay between €250,000 - 350,000 to part with Neil Lennon and his coaching staff.

Rapid currently sit 11th in the Romania top flight on five points. They're nine points behind league leaders Universitatea Craiova. It's said the club's owners are unhappy that Rapid remain the only team without a victory this season.

After the weekend's 1-1 draw against city rivals Dinamo, Lennon insisted he had no intentions of resigning despite pressure mounting from the club's fans.

"I keep hearing that I am about to resign, but it's not going to happen," he said. "I understand there is frustration that we didn't win and I feel the same myself, but we were unlucky.

"The players gave everything. Did any of you actually watch the game?

"I do not understand the context of these questions. I prepared for the match with Albion Rrahmani in my team, but these things happen in football."

Club president Viorel Moldovan issued Lennon with a vote of confidence just last week.

He said: "There must be patience. Of course, we have faith in Neil Lennon.

"The fans are naturally disappointed, we are just as disappointed.

"We just need that first win. I'm convinced that sooner or later this breakthrough will happen."
