Fabrizio Romano has given an explicit update on the ongoing negotiations between Celtic and Brighton and Hove Albion regarding Matt O'Riley – and the renowned transfer guru has also outlined another move that could impact Manchester City's interest in Kyogo Furuhashi.

On O'Riley, a post on X (formetly Twitter) combined news about the Celtic player and Billy Gilmour's seemingly imminent departure from Brighton for Napoli – a move that is likely to open the door for O'Riley's move south.

"Napoli are close to completing the deal for Billy Gilmour as it’s all set on both club and player side," said Romano.

"Meanwhile, Brighton are advancing in talks for Matt O’Riley as they can finalise the agreement with Celtic soon.

"Gilmour, waiting for final green light."

Romano then went on to all but confirm Ilkay Gundogan's return to Manchester City, by suggesting the player has already put pen to paper.

As outlined yesterday, rumours of the Premier League champions' interest in Celtic forward Kyogo were qualified by the fact getting Gundogan through the door was priority. After that, said Romano earlier this week, City would make a decision on Kyogo.

"Documents and contracts signed for Ilkay Gündogan, his return to Manchester City will be announced soon," Romano said on Thursday morning. "Barcelona let him leave for free, it was key condition for Man City to accept. Pep Guardiola wanted Gundo back.

"One year contract plus option until June 2026."

How quickly Manchester City move in determining interest in Kyogo remains to be seen from here.
