Celtic midfielder Mikey Johnston is reportedly on the cusp of signing for English Championship side Burnley.

Having impressed at West Bromwich Albion last term on a season-long loan – during which time he scored seven goals in 20 appearances – the 25-year-old winger looks set to return to English football's second tier under new manager Scott Parker.

First reported by Football Insider yesterday evening, journalist Andrew Miller posted on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting Johnston is set to undergo a medical at Turf Moor.

"Celtic winger, Mikey Johnston, is expected to undergo a medical in London this morning ahead of a move to EFL Championship side, Burnley," said Miller.

"The 25 year-old Republic of Ireland international will replace Wilson Odobert who recently left The Clarets to join Tottenham."

Speaking specifically about Johnston's current position at Celtic last week, manager Brendan Rodgers said: "I'm open at the moment in terms of where things are at, I gave Mikey his debut back and and when he was 18 and played him. So we've got a good relationship and we talk openly.

"I think he's at the stage where he'll probably want to play more. But he's worked hard over pre-season and put himself in a really good position.

"There are some clubs that have shown interest in him, but we'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks."
