Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke is in line to leave Celtic on loan.

The Swedish centre-back is expected to leave Glasgow before the end of the summer transfer window.

And in a bizarre quirk, he could be the replacement for a new Rangers signing.

According to Sky Sports, Celtic have accepted a loan offer from FC Twente for the 24-year-old.

The Dutch club are keen to sign Lagerbielke as a replacement for former captain Robin Propper who joined Rangers this summer.

It's thought a season-long loan offer has been accepted but the deal has not yet been finalised.

Heerenveen and Lecce had also been interested in the centre-back this summer but Twente look to be in pole position to land Lagerbielke.

The centre back played just 10 times for Celtic last season after joining the club on a long-term deal from IF Elfsborg.

Now, it appears Lagerbielke could be shipped out on loan to develop with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales the preferred partnership in defence.

Stephen Welsh is also ahead of Lagerbielke in the pecking order with Maik Nawrocki also on the books at Parkhead.

Lagerbielke - who has been capped for Sweden on two occasions - is under contract at Celtic until 2028.
