Gustav Isaksen was linked with a move to Celtic during the summer transfer window.

However, the Danish international insists leaving Lazio was never really on the cards for him.

The 23-year-old insists leaving the Serie A giants would've presented a 'boring' year ahead for him after learning all about the club after his move from FC Midtjylland in 2023.

Nothing came to fruition, and the winger has explained why no other club interested him this summer.

"It would be boring to have spent a whole year getting to know everything in Lazio to go somewhere new and then have to learn it all again," he told tvmidtvest. "So I told my agent that even if something exciting comes along, I would like to stay with 99 percent certainty. I feel that I have the potential to become an important man down there.

"I had a bit of a hard time with the coach who was there before. We didn't quite find each other, and I wasn't quite the player he wanted. I think I did well, so it was a bit frustrating. After a new coach came in, it feels calmer. It seems that there are longer prospects with the coach we have now."

Meanwhile, Mikey Johnston has posted a heartfelt message to Celtic fans following his departure from Parkhead to West Bromwich Albion.

After several seasons in and around the Celtic first-team, Johnston signed for West Brom last week on a permanent basis, having enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Hawthorns between January and May of last season.

A product of the Celtic youth academy, Johnston made his debut for the senior side under Brendan Rodgers during the manager's first spell in charge of the club, in a 4-1 home win over St Johnstone in May 2017.
