Celtic FC Women have discovered their opponents for the second round of UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying.

Elena Sadiku's Celtic side made history last season by winning their maiden SWPL title and have already started the new campaign in spectacular fashion.

Victories over KUPS Kuopio and FC Gintra mean the reigning SWPL champions  are just one tie away from making the group stage of Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Indeed, they will take on Ukrainian side FC Vorskla Poltava for a place in the UWCL proper.

Boss Sadiku, who came in halfway through last season and guided the Celts to the title, has reacted to the draw.

She is excited by it but is equally as looking forward to playing European football in front of the Celtic supporters.

“[It’s the] first time to have Champions League [football] at home in Glasgow for us,” Sadiku said.

“Let’s try to write more history together to get to [the] group stage by having the best support from the best fans.”

Celtic Women have never made it this far in Europe despite a considerable overturn of players during the summer, and an injury to key player Chloe Craig.

Sadiku’s managerial prowess, though, has shone through and her impact at the club since joining in January is nothing short of remarkable.

Still just 30, the boss continues to make history, and will go down in the record-books if her side manage to see off Vorskla Poltava.
