Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has been left enraged by the timing of Auston Trusty’s move to Celtic.
The American central defender joined the Hoops on transfer deadline day for a hefty £6m, penning a five-year deal in Glasgow’s east end.
He joined fellow new recruits Luke McCowan and Arne Engels in coming in at the last minute.
While the closing stages of the summer is when a wealth of business gets done, Wilder believes it to be nonsensical that things are left so late.
His side sold Trusty to Celtic in the dying embers of the window and didn’t have enough time to draft in a replacement.
This annoyed the Blades boss, who thought his club were put in a nearly impossible situation.
“It’s a ridiculous situation to be in, a stupid position and there’s no point to it whatsoever,” Wilder told SportsBoom. “Most of us in the game would rather see transfers having to be done before the season starts.
"The fact they can still happen tells me that the windows were set up by people who clearly don’t understand football.
“Football people don’t want this. Not the ones I speak to. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t rather get all of this sorted out beforehand.
“When the matches start, you shouldn’t be able to do transfers. It’s as simple as that.”

Although Wilder is angered by the format of the window, how late it stayed open benefited Celtic.
The Hoops left their business late, but eventually got Brendan Rodgers’ desired quality through the door.
They signed four players in the final five days of the transfer window, including three in the last four hours.
Alex Valle, McCowan, Engels, and Trusty have all came in to up the level of the squad and ensure it can cope with the strenuous demands brought by both domestic and European football.
