Men against boys, so said then Blackburn manager Graeme Souness when his side lost 1-0 to Celtic on Halloween night in Glasgow in 2002.
So aggrieved was the former Rangers boss, he was adamant his side deserved to win in Glasgow, and was likewise certain they'd overturn the score-line in the second-leg of their UEFA Cup encounter on home soil two weeks later.
Goals from Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton in the 15th and 68th minutes respectively on Thursday, November 14 ensured Martin O'Neill's men progressed to the next stage, firmly clinching victory in this so-called 'battle of Britain' with both hands.
Fast forward 22 years to the day, and this remains one of Celtic's most impressive European victories to date, on the road to the 2002/03 season's UEFA Cup Final in Seville.
Now on the cusp of another match that will inevitably be tagged with the same billing – when Celtic travel to Aston Villa on January 29, 2025 in their final match of the UEFA Champions League league-phase – that night at Ewood Park almost a quarter of a century ago lives long in the memory.

By the time that encounter unfolds at Villa Park next year, there's a good chance both sides will already have what they need to progress further into the tournament – at present, you'd assume Villa are still targeting a top-eight finish, while Celtic are likely more focused on reaching the play-off stage.
Still, the fixture is sure to wear the 'battle of Britain' moniker, no matter what remains at stake.
