The Celtic squad will wear black armbands during today's match against Ross County to honour the memory of former player John McNamee, who passed away at the age of 83.

McNamee joined Celtic in 1960 and made his debut the following year, contributing to a 2-0 victory over Hibernian.

Over four years with the club, he made 44 appearances and scored four goals.

In April 1964, McNamee was signed by Jock Stein for Hibernian, having previously played under him as a reserve coach at Celtic. Stein departed Hibernian less than a year later to take on the managerial role at Celtic.

As a defender, McNamee spent two seasons with Hibernian before moving to Newcastle United in 1966, where he played a vital role in the team's 1969 Inter Cities Fairs Cup triumph.

His career also included stints at Blackburn Rovers, Hartlepool United, Lancaster City, and Workington before his retirement in 1976.

Celtic host Ross County at Parkhead (3pm kick-off) with the opportunity to extend their Scottish Premiership lead over Aberdeen to five points, who visit Heart of Midlothian on Sunday.
