Giorgos Giakoumakis’ prolific start to life in the MLS continued, scoring another goal as Atlanta United drew 3-3 with New England Revolution.

The Greece international, who left Celtic in February, has been in sensational form for his new club, with this goal his ninth in just 12 appearances.

The striker scored at 2-0 to reduce New England’s advantage, before his team equalised through Tiago Almada, taking the lead thanks to Miguel Berry in the 87th minute.

However, there was to be another twist in the tale, as former Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil scored in the 91st minute to salvage a late draw for New England, ensuring that the Boston club stayed above Atlanta in the MLS Eastern Conference standings.

Giakoumakis’ goal had a familiar connection, as it was assisted by another former Celtic player, Andrew Gutman, who was at the club between 2019 to 2021. The defender passed the ball into the striker’s path, and Giakoumakis was there to slide the ball past Dorde Petrovic in the New England goal.

The striker was a success at Celtic, scoring 26 goals in all competitions for the club during his spell in Scotland. He was the 2021/22 Premiership joint-top scorer last season, finishing the campaign with 13 goals, a total matched by Regan Charles-Cook of Ross County.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou could be named Tottenham manager as early as next week, according to reports.

It's claimed Celtic chiefs are "resigned" to losing Postecoglou to the lure of the Premier League club after the Scottish Cup final this weekend.

Postecoglou could seal a domestic treble at Celtic with victory over Inverness at Hampden at the weekend, and it's reported it'll be his final match as Parkhead boss.

The Sun report Celtic chiefs have already started the search for a replacement to Postecoglou with Spurs interest mounting.

It's claimed Tottenham are keen to make a quick-fire appointment of Postecoglou as soon as the Scottish Cup final is over.

And the outlet reports that Celtic chiefs won't prevent an approach from Spurs to land Postecoglou.

Instead, it's reported a list of possible successors to Postecoglou is being drawn up in the Celtic boardroom.

Quizzed on the reports linking him with Tottenham, Postecoglou said last week: "I’ve been asked about these things plenty – and yet I’m still here.

"It doesn’t [come onto my radar] and anyone who knows me knows what's important is the here and now – I've never planned anything in my football career.

"My ambitions are to enjoy tomorrow and then try to win a cup final and make it a special year."
