Brendan Rodgers could be set for a sensational return to the Celtic managerial hot seat.

The club are still on the lookout for Ange Postecoglou's successor after he quit to join Tottenham Hotspur last week.

According to the Daily Mail members of the Celtic hierarchy - Michael Nicholson and finance director Chris McKay - reportedly flew by private jet to Sain to visit Rodgers in his home in Mallorca over the weekend to hold face-to-face talks with the Northern Irishman and discuss the possibility of him agreeing to a second stint in Paradise.

The former Leicester boss has been a frontrunner for the job and betting was even suspended on him making a stunning return to Parkhead at one point last week. Celtic supremo Dermot Desmond is reportedly firmly behind bringing back Rodgers, although other candidates remain in the frame.

Pep Guardiola's number two at Manchester City Enzo Maresca - fresh from helping the Citizens win the Champions League - remains a person of interest as does Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen.

The Scottish champions received a welcome boost at the weekend in their pursuit of Knutsen after talks between the Norwegian and Dutch giants Ajax broke down.

Knutsen led Bodo/Glimt to back-to-back Eliteserien titles in 2020 and 2021 and had originally been targeted as a replacement for John Heitinga by the Eredivisie club after they endured a disappointing season.

The Johan Cruyff Arena outfit have now turned their attentions elsewhere after they failed to reach an agreement with the 54-year-old during negotiations over the weekend.

Meanwhile, a new name has also entered the Celtic managerial race with the Daily Record also claiming that Italian Francesco Farioli also held talks with the club last week.

A meeting between club powerbrokers and the 34-year-old Farioli - who is referred to in his homeland as the "young De Zerbi"- reputedly took place last week as Celtic chiefs continue their managerial search in earnest.

Farioli's has recently enjoyed spells in Turkey with Fatih Karagumruck and Antalyaspor.

He led Antalyaspor to their highest-ever points tally in the Turkish top flight. Farioli also worked under Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi at Italian sides Benevento and Sassuolo and is said to possess the same all-out attacking philosophy as his mentor as well as Postecoglou which would excite the Celtic support.
