Celtic have been rocked by an injury crisis with central defender Maik Nawrocki the latest to be sidelined.

The Polish defender Nawrocki picked up a hamstring knock during the recent 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock in the Viaplay Cup.

Now the 22-year-old is set to be out for a period and will more than likely miss the match against Rangers at Ibrox on September 3.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers now faces a massive defensive crisis ahead of matches against St Johnstone and Rangers.

The Scottish champions are also without defender Cameron Carter-Vickers who suffered a hamstring injury against Aberdeen.

Carter-Vickers has not been given a return to action date yet and he will also miss the powderkeg showdown against the Govan side.

Stephen Welsh will undergo surgery for ruptured ankle ligaments after he suffered the injury just hours after signing a new deal.

Japanese centre-back Yuki Kobayashi is still short of full-match fitness following an injury in pre-season.

Rodgers may have to turn to Celtic new boy Gustaf Lagerbielke - who made his debut in the loss to Killie - and Liam Scales as options in central defence.

Tomoki Iwata has previously filled in for Celtic at centre-back with Alistair Johnston who returned to training last week after an ankle has also played for Canada in the position.

With 10 days left in the transfer window, Rodgers may well be forced to spend cash on another defender ahead of the first Glasgow derby of the season.

Meanwhile, former Celtic winger Jota could be set to leave Al-Ittihad after a "fierce campaign" against the club players and management over star players joining the Saudi league.

It's claimed the Portuguese wide man is set to depart his new club after just one month as Al-Ittihad fans are unhappy with their club due to the major names joining other clubs in the division.

Despite forking out £25 million on Jota the club is looking to move him on.
