Celtic defeated Kilmarnock 3-1 at the weekend to move seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Goals from Reo Hatate, Luis Palma and Greg Taylor were enough to see off Derek McInnes' side who pulled one back through David Watson to reduce the arrears to 2-1 at one stage.

However it was a slick performance from Brendan Rodgers men as Palma making his first league start and turned in an all-round impressive display and notched his second consecutive league goal and first at Celtic Park to add to last weekend's counter against Motherwell at Fir Park.

The Honduran who got the nod over Yang to start the match did not let the Northern Irishman down and he scored with a stunning whipped effort from the outside the box to double Celtic's lead after a superb solo strike from Japanese playmaker Hatate.

Palma is fast becoming the new fans favourite in green and white with many of the faithful now asking if they finally have a winger that can replace the void left by Portuguese winger Jota who departed for Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad in the summer for £25 million?

The victory also saw the domestic return of American centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers who partnered the Cinderella story of the season Liam Scales in defence.

Rodgers revealed that Irishman Scales has been one of the biggest surprises of his managerial career.

The 50-year-old said: " Liam Scales was outstanding and I am so happy for him. He is probably one of the biggest surprises for me in my career as a coach and only because I had not seen him play so much and there were other players ahead of him.

"Through one leaving and one being injured, I have seen enough in training to give him an opportunity. You ideally want a left-sided centre-back in your team who has good pace and intelligence and he has all of that.

"You can see in his performances that he has really grown as a player and I am so happy for him because there is a big focus on the Irish players when they come here but he has been outstanding."
