Celtic spilt two precious Scottish Premiership points as Motherwell held them to a surprise 1-1 draw at Parkhead.

VAR was the star attraction once again as the champions were awarded two penalties on a day when Luis Palma fluffed his lines from 12 yards and ex-Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull didn't.

It was Turnbull who thought he had won all three points for the hosts after he coolly stroked home from the spot with five minutes left on the clock after Palma's miss.

However Jon Obika glanced a header home following Blair Spittal's corner from the left in the 90th minute as Stewart Kettlewell's men grabbed a share of the spoils as Motherwell exacted some sort of revenge for their last gasp 2-1 reverse at Fir Park in September.

Brendan Rodgers admitted that Celtic simply had to clear their lines at a crucial moment in the game and that the failure to do so has come back to bite them.

He said: "I think they flooded our box with an extra man but we should still deal with it. The ball gets sent in and it arrives in our six-yard box and it drops and hits their guy and trickles over the line. It is one of those ones where we have to be better in that moment. Whether it is down to organisation or whatever you have to see that.

"Corners for or against are the decisive moments in the game as they can win and lose you a game or cost you points."

The 50-year-old also bemoaned the men in green and white's lack of creativity in front of goal.

He said: "We are disappointed because we had enough opportunities to win the game.We had over 80 per cent of the possession so we had enough of the ball but did not create as much as we would have liked but still the opportunities we had were good ones."

Celtic failed to move 11 points clear at the top of the Premiership table although they did extend their advantage to nine points over Rangers who travel to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie tomorrow.
