Everything Celtic winger James Forrest said to Sky Sports ahead of Flag Day versus Kilmarnock on Sunday at Celtic Park...

You ended the last campaign well, didn't you?

It was a really good positive ending to the season, personally and for the team. I think that's the most important thing. I've really enjoyed playing for Celtic for so many years. At the end of the season, it was great and I am looking forward to the new season now.

How do you take that form on and make sure you start this season just as fast?

I think it's important, you learn with Celtic if you win a cup or a league it is all about how hungry you are and how you bounce back for the next one. It has always been like that with Celtic for so many years. It will be like that again this season. The boys have come back hungry again in pre-season and it has been a good couple of weeks and we are looking forward to the new season.

You are a testament to that as you only need to look at the amount of trophies you have won as it all adds up. You are so close to beating the record of being the most decorated Celtic player. What would that mean to you if you were able to do that this season?

In football, you can never think too far ahead. If you start thinking you are going to do this or that it doesn't happen. The most important thing is...and it is a boring answer...is that you focus on every day and the next game. That's why we have had so much success over the years. That's what the club has concentrated on for years with the players and the staff. It has been a pleasure to play for the club for so long and win so many trophies and I am just looking forward to trying to do it again this season.

Given that do you try and get that message across to any new players because you have been here for so long?

When new signings come in, they realise pretty quickly how big the club is even if they didn't know before they came. The players and the amount of staff that have been here for years as well they realise it is a really right group. New signings and young players coming through adapt to that very quickly and that helps the boys who have been here for a while as well.

The manager is now in the second season of his second spell, do you see him getting that message across given you have worked with him before? Will this pre-season benefit the players having had another season under the manager?

Yeah, definitely. I think I said last season when he (Brendan Rodgers) came in and Matty (O'Riley) stayed last year and I said to a lot of the boys that they would enjoy working with him and it is another pre-season after him being with us for another year and that will help all the players. Everyone can learn from him all the time.

What sort of challenge are you expecting in the Scottish Premiership this season?

It’s always going to be difficult. We had a really positive end to the season but it starts all over again on Sunday. We have to make sure we do what we did in pre-season and make sure we take that into the league on Sunday. We need to just focus on ourselves, that’s the main thing.

How tricky will Kilmarnock be, as they’re already playing competitive games in Europe? Will they be as tricky as last season?

Yeah, definitely. I think it’s always a tight game versus them, they did really well last year. It’s good for them that they’re in Europe and they did really well with their first leg. It will be a tough game, so we need to make sure we turn up and focus on ourselves.

You had a positive end to the season, you got into the Scotland squad at the Euros. How difficult was that with not being on the field and the results Scotland got?

It was great to be in the squad and playing against Gibraltar, which was my first cap in three years. There were loads of positives to take but on a personal note, I would have loved to have played in one of the euros games. It wasn’t to be but the boys have done so well in qualifying for two competitions back to back. It was good to be involved and I would have loved to have played but that’s football. I can take loads of positives from it.

How difficult is it when the team needs an attacking spark and you’re sitting on the bench?

It definitely was frustrating. It wasn’t just myself, but other forward players who wanted to play. I think every player believes in themselves and if you go there not believing you can make a difference then you shouldn’t be there. It wasn’t to be, the manager put other players on and you need to deal with it and get on with it. That’s what I did
