Everything that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said to the media after his side's 3-0 win over Rangers at home...

How pleased were you with your team today?

It was a fantastic performance. I thought we were electric going forward. We scored three and you look at the other chances we had in the game. It was very, very good. Equally as pleasing was our defensive performance as were solid and strong went right to the very end and Kasper (Schmeichel) made a very good save. Overall, it is such a great day for us. It just continues the quality and intensity of the speed at which we have been playing this season.

Does that feel like a big statement victory early on in the season?

Not really. No. I think we have only started. The most pleasing aspect is the performance. That is what we said to the players. I wanted them to concentrate on that because that's what we have always done. We always make it really difficult for every opponent that we play and we saw that today with and without the ball.

What has this week been like? Has it been a hectic week with the transfer window, the Champions League draw and building up to this game? I suppose it is the perfect end to a busy few days.

We were busy from the first day of pre-season. We go back to 27th June and the players and the staff have put in a lot of work and we are now through the transfer window, to arrive at this point with how we have been playing and know there is much more development to come is pleasing. It was a busy week, it was a hectic week and we are now at the end but what we wanted to do was play well and win and we've done that.

This has to be one of the best spells and periods you have had as Celtic manager and it must be right up there, is it not?

It is good when you see growth. It is good when you compare it to this time last season as that was a wee bit flat. You sensed before the game started that there was great energy in the crowd and that is what you want your team to bring. They are enjoying watching their team and the quality of the game and there is still such a long way to go but all you can do is make the first step in a positive way and the players have clearly done that.

When you spend money on players there is an expectation that players may step aside but you saw Liam Scales today and he rose to the challenge, didn't he?

I think what is important is the squad. I don't know where we would have been without Liam last season. He came in and played at Ibrox and all the challenges he's had as a player that was maybe going to leave. He is such an important member of this squad. If we want to go deep in competitions then we knew we had to challenge and bring players in and get that quality into the building. Thankfully, we have been able to do that. I asked for that from the club and the club has been first class in doing that bringing in the level that we want and that will hopefully serve us well going forward.

Paulo Bernardo was quite sensational today, do you agree?

He is very honest about the game. He has got quality and he feels he should have scored. He did a wonderful piece of skill in the box and that would have made it 3-0 in the first half and he didn't quite make it a clean strike. Overall,  I thought he was very good.

How pleased were you with the performance of Kyogo?

It’s what you're wanting. You want that from your big players and I think it’s that confidence and that courage that he has. I think you can say that about a lot of our players going into these games to play big and perform to a high level. We’ve done that today, and he’s probably disappointed that he never got a hat-trick but his goals and the one we had disallowed - it’ll be interesting to see the line on that because it was a really well-worked goal through Rangers pressure by breaking away and we score. He was very good.

Is the best still to come, especially with these new players?

I think when you get a group of young players mixed with the senior players that are here, then naturally that will come. It’s just about keeping the focus and clarity there around them. I go back to pre-season, which was important to establishing the principles and building on them - we saw that over the course of the pre-season. The players have continued to work really well and now that they’re into the competitive phase they’ve continued with that. It’s an exciting team that is working well. Recovery for some now, others will go away on international duty then get back and keep that consistency. From the end of last season and now, the consistency is there.

Now that the transfer window is closed, did you get everything you wanted? Are you happy/satisfied?

I’m very happy. It’s very hard to do everything you want to do in one window, but if you look at the work that’s gone into things at the club with not just players in but players going out, there’s been so much that we’ve needed to do in order to get the squad to where we wanted it to be. Managers will always want a little bit more but I cannot complain. We’ve done some great work over the course of the window with the players we’ve brought in, going right back to Kasper and all of the guys. We’ll need that depth over the course of the season.

Luke McCowan looked like he was at home out there. Do you feel he can hit the ground running?

It’s so nice for him. I think for young guys out there it was a dream for him to get out there. It’s one of those games that bring a different aspect to the bones in your legs. He’s come onto the pitch and worked hard with some really nice touches. He’s a player over the course of the season that will be important for us. Great for him, and great for Arne Engels to come in, you just see his elegance on the pitch and for a young guy he’s got huge potential. That’s why we brought him in. There’s lots of growth in all of the players.

Do you feel the business you’ve done is taking the squad up a level?

I just think there’s development there. Having that possibility to do that is really nice as a manager because we’ve all had moments when you don’t have that. That was the importance of pre-season and getting that depth into the squad. It’s a really healthy squad.
