Celtic take on Ross County at The Global Energy Stadium this weekend, As Brendan Rodgers’ side look to get back to winning ways.

Last time out, the champions were defeated 7-1 by Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park in the Champions League on Tuesday. Prior to this, they hammered St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, continuing their spotless start to the domestic season with a thumping 6-0 victory in Perth.

For the home side, at the time of writing, they sit seventh in the league table, having drawn four out of their opening seven games. They drew their last game against Hearts, who scored a 96th-minute equaliser courtesy of Lawrence Shankland. Prior to this, they also shared the spoils with St Johnstone, and are sitting on seven points presently.

With all of that being said, what team will Rodgers choose to start in the Scottish Highlands? The Celtic Way’s Ryan McGinlay and Tony Haggerty each have their say…

Ryan McGinlay

With one game to go until (another) international break, it is important for Celtic to put three points on the board. As Aberdeen and Rangers play later on in the day, Rodgers’ side can apply some “scoreboard pressure” to their title rivals – if they can win against Sunday’s opponents in the shape of Ross County.

Unfortunately, injuries mean that the side will have to be changed, though this is not the worst thing after Tuesday night’s disaster in Dortmund. This will not occur to Kasper Schmeichel, however, as he will retain his place in goal despite shipping seven during the week. Due to injury concerns to Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers, two of Celtic’s four starting defenders will not feature at Dingwall. Because of this, Alex Valle will feature at left-back, making his first start in the Scottish Premiership. Auston Trusty will continue to play alongside Liam Scales, while Alistair Johnston will shake off his slight injury worries to slot in at right-back.

In the midfield, Callum McGregor will not be rested – thanks to the international break – as he will take his place at the base of midfield. I predict a return to the starting line-up for Reo Hatate in place of Paulo Bernardo, while Arne Engels will continue to feature despite a disappointing return to Germany for the Belgium international. In spite of all this, I would not be surprised to see Luke McCowan start this one, though I think he will remain on the bench for the time being.

Up front, Adam Idah will lead the line for Celtic, supported on the left and right-wing by Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn respectively. There may be an argument to start James Forrest for this one in place of the latter, but I would give Kuhn the benefit of the doubt, especially due to his electric start to the season.

Celtic to get back on track in Dingwall – I expect them to win this one by three or four goals at a minimum. Time to put that “scoreboard pressure” back on Aberdeen and Rangers.

Ryan’s team: Schmeichel; Johnston, Trusty, Scales, Valle; McGregor, Hatate, Engels; Kuhn, Idah, Maeda

Tony Haggerty

Deflation, disappointed, and demoralised. All the feelings that Rodgers and his Celtic side will have felt since Tuesday night's 7-1 destruction by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Sticking with the 'd' theme Celtic now have to turn their attentions to domestic matters in Dingwall of all places as they face Ross County in the Scottish Premiership. Rodgers will make changes for this one to freshen things up as the champions try to chalk up a 'magnificent seven' league victories on the spin in the Highlands. Schmeichel will remain between the posts and Johnston will ably assist him at right back.  Barcelona loanee Valle will come in at left-back and the central defensive pairing of Scales and Trusty will remain in situ.

The engine room may look slightly different from the one that took to the midweek pitch at Signal Iduna Park. Captain McGregor will lead the side alongside Engels who will learn from his chastened experience against the Bundesliga outfit. That leaves one place in the engine room to fill. The head says Hatate. The heart says McCowan. The head wins it on this occasion. The Japanese playmaker will return to the starting fold.

In attack, Kuhn will be asked to terrorise the County defence down the right-hand side. The German did not cover himself in any glory on his return to native soil and he will no doubt want to shake that negative display out of his system as quickly as possible. Maeda - who arguably was one of Celtic's few bright lights on a dim and grim night in Dortmund - will patrol the left flank. The Japanese winger had a mixed-bag performance in Europe as he scored the equaliser but was guilty of gifting Dortmund a goal with some slack possession play. He remains Celtic's top scorer at this moment and he will start.

Idah will be charged with leading the line assuming he is over that incredible headed miss from inches out in midweek. This is a day best suited to the Irishman's. Idah's robust and direct running style can be allied with his ability to run the channels and stretch defences.  All those ingredients are worth throwing into the mix as they will offer a good forward outlet for Celtic. It is a typical 'horses for courses' game and the Republic of Ireland striker gets the nod for this encounter at Kyogo's expense.

Celtic to get back on the domestic horse and win by three clear goals.

Tony's team: Schmeichel; Johnston, Scales, Trusty, Valle; McGregor, Engels, Hatate; Kuhn, Idah, Maeda.
