Celtic travel to North Lanarkshire on Sunday to face Motherwell at Fir Park in the Scottish Premiership, as they look to get back to winning ways domestically.

Last time out, Brendan Rodgers’ side drew 2-2 with Aberdeen, who play on Saturday versus Dundee United. Coming off the back of an impressive 0-0 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League in Bergamo, the champions will be looking to keep their unbeaten run going, ahead of a busy domestic schedule over the next few weeks.

Last time out, Stuart Kettlewell’s side lost 1-0 at home to Dundee, though they did beat Hibernian before the international break. At the time of writing, the Lanarkshire team sit fifth in the Premiership table – a good start for the Steelmen.

With all of that being said, what starting line-up will Rodgers pick for this match? The Celtic Way’s Ryan McGinlay and Tony Haggerty each have their say…

Ryan McGinlay

What a difference a couple of days makes for Celtic.

After last week’s Aberdeen disappointment, the mood has certainly changed in and around Celtic Park, thanks to the club’s midweek heroics in Italy.

Indeed, despite only picking up a point in Bergamo, it feels as if that draw has rejuvenated both the team and the support. A tiresome exercise, Celtic’s excursions on Wednesday will mean that changes have to be made in order to freshen things up, in my opinion. It is time to shuffle the pack a little.

One place that will not be seeing any change is that of the goalkeeping position, as Kasper Schmeichel will retain his place, following an immense showing in Europe. Alistair Johnston will retain his spot at right-back – as will Alex Valle on the opposite side, despite Greg Taylor’s return to full training. Dundee at home on Wednesday night could be the game to bring the Scotland international back into the fold.

In the centre of defence, the USA partnership of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty will be seen for the first time, as the former returns from his latest injury setback. Harsh on Liam Scales, yes, but the defender has played a lot of games for both club and country – it is time to see CCV and Trusty in the same time for the very first time – a £13 million partnership.

In the midfield, there will be changes here, too. Callum McGregor will remain, as the captain and is an ever-present in the team, though the two players alongside him will change. Paulo Bernardo will feature in the number eight position, as the Portugal U21 captain’s substitute performance in Bergamo should see him being awarded a starting spot ahead of others. I also believe that Luke McCowan will make his first start for Celtic tomorrow, playing in the advanced midfield role. A positive presence when on the park, the boyhood fan has been a tremendous impact sub recently – let us see what he can do from the start.

Up front, Adam Idah will continue to lead the line, his physicality needed against the height of Motherwell’s defenders. After all, he has a history at Fir Park. On the wings, Nicolas Kuhn will play on the right and Daizen Maeda on the left, though I was tempted to pick Luis Palma due to his positive contribution off the bench on Wednesday.

Celtic to win this one comfortably, as they will get back to winnings ways in North Lanarkshire on Sunday afternoon…

Celtic head to Fir Park after their heroic midweek Champions League exertions over Atalanta in Bergamo. It’s time for Rodgers' side to get back on the domestic horse.

The Steelmen made life pretty difficult for the Scottish champions on both visits to Lanarkshire last season, winning 2-1 and 3-1 respectively but this is when the Irishman has the luxury and advantage of being able to freshen up his squad with the personnel that he has at his disposal.

Rodgers will rotate at the weekend, that’s for sure. Schmeichel who was outstanding at the Gewiss Stadium will be between the sticks and he will be ably assisted by Ralston at right back who will come in for Johnston. Valle will be deployed at left-back who will continue in the absence of Taylor. The Spaniard came of age against the Italians and his stock as a Celtic player continues to rise steadily. Trusty and Scales stood tall in Bergamo and were the proverbial colossus for Celtic at the heart of the defence against Atalanta, one of them will need to miss out to accommodate the returning Carter-Vickers. The American will replace his compatriot despite Trusty having his best game yet in a Celtic shirt.

In the midfield, McCowan will make his first start in green and white, and he will be joined in the engine room by Bernardo and skipper McGregor with Hatate and £11 million man Engels dropping to the bench. This game seems ripe for the energy of the former Dundee skipper, and it is a challenge he will undoubtedly relish.

Up front, Republic of Ireland striker Idah may well get the nod ahead of Kyogo to lead the line and to build some much-needed momentum as his campaign has been very much a stop-start one thus far. The Champions League outing will have done the attacker the world of good as he returns to a happy hunting ground where he bagged a brace in the aforementioned 3-1 match during last season’s memorable title run-in. German winger Kuhn and Japanese wide man Maeda will be asked to provide the ammunition once again as Celtic seek their first win in three matches after successive draws against Aberdeen and Atalanta.

Dial ‘M’ for Motherwell but it is Celtic who will rediscover their killer touch in Lanarkshire and will triumph with at least three goals to spare.
