Celtic take on RB Leipzig on Matchday Four of the Champions League, as Brendan Rodgers locks horns with old foe Marco Rose once again at Celtic Park.

In what is set to be an action-packed night in Glasgow, Celtic will be looking to make it two wins from two at home in Europe, after drawing last time out with Atalanta in Bergamo. They face a strong Leipzig side awash with talent, though they have not picked up a point in the Champions League so far thanks to defeats at the hands of Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Liverpool respectively. Despite this, they sit second in the Bundesliga – three points off of leaders Bayern Munich -, their last match a 2-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

As Celtic Park gets set to host another big night in the Champions League, who will the manager pick to start this game? The Celtic Way’s Ryan McGinlay and Tony Haggerty each have their say…

Ryan McGinlay

These are the games that you really look forward to on the calendar. Celtic versus German opposition ALWAYS delivers – win, lose or draw.

After the high of last Saturday at Hampden versus Aberdeen, Rodgers’ side must shift their attention and focus to European endeavours, as they have breathed new life into a campaign that could have gone off the rails after the Borussia Dortmund game on Matchday Two. While Leipzig are having a better domestic season than Dortmund, Celtic will fancy their chances – especially at home -, though they know that Rose’s team will be travelling to Glasgow in need of a win.

I predicted 11 out of 11 pre-match versus the Dons (before the leaked team came out, mind you), and I believe that Celtic will go with the exact same team to start this one. In goals, Kasper Schmeichel will start as usual, as the Denmark keeper will be called upon to make big saves once again versus quality opposition in the shape of Benjamin Sekso, Lois Openda et al. If Celtic are to secure another good result like they did in Italy, then Schmeichel must bring his A-game to the fore.

Joining him in the defence will be Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty, as Rodgers will elect to pick his all-American centre-back duo in place of Liam Scales in the backline. Alistair Johnston will join his North American partners as right-back, while on-loan left-back Alex Valle will pip Greg Taylor to his starting spot once again – a changing of the guard may be occurring on the left-hand side of defence under Rodgers.

In the midfield, captain Callum McGregor will play at the base, where he will be joined by the dynamic duo of Arne Engels and Reo Hatate. Both were brilliant at Hampden – they will need to replicate those heroics if they are to defeat RB Leipzig in Europe. If Hatate plays like he did against Aberdeen, then Celtic have a chance at claiming a Leipzig-shaped scalp on Tuesday night. Engels’ set-pieces have to be on the money in this one, especially because of Leipzig’s weaknesses defensively in deal-ball situations.

Kyogo Furuhashi will lead the line after scoring last weekend, where he will be supported on either side by Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda. Indeed, five of Celtic’s six goals came from these three players, as Maeda and Kuhn in particular tore Aberdeen apart. The club’s success tomorrow night could rest on these players’ shoulders – at least in an attacking sense.

I fancy Celtic to win this one and put themselves in a tremendous position to at least get to the play-off round. Both teams to score – but Celtic to score more. 3-2 to Rodgers’ rejuvenated side.

Ryan’s team: Schmeichel; Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Valle; McGregor, Engels, Hatate; Kuhn, Kyogo, Maeda

If it ain't broken, it doesn't need mending... right? Celtic ain't broken. It could well be status quo time.

The Scottish champions absolutely dismantled Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Saturday in what was arguably supposed to be their toughest domestic test of the season thus far. Rodgers' men came through that examination with flying colours. Can the Irishman's side replicate those levels of performance at the national stadium at Celtic Park in the Champions League against RB Leipzig? That is the $64,000 dollar question facing the Scots.

Can Celtic claim a statement victory in the Champions League phase against top-quality opposition in the shape of the Bundesliga outfit? We will find out the answers to those questions in the fullness of time. Celtic have been on an upward trajectory ever since the stalemate in Bergamo against Atalanta on Matchday Three. What a position Celtic put themselves in when it comes to qualification for the knockout stages if they were to triumph in this fixture.

Who will Rodgers turn to in the green and white heat of battle for this crucial Champions League clash? Schmeichel will take his usual place between the posts and another display like he produced in Italy against Atalanta will do nicely. The Dane will be ably assisted by Johnston at right-back, and Valle at left-back with an all-American boy central defensive pairing of Carter-Vickers and Trusty. Trusty's pace at the back of the pack could well prove to be a huge asset against Leipzig's quick attackers.

In midfield, the triumvirate of skipper McGregor, £11 million man Engels and the imperious Hatate deserve to get the nod again after their respective displays against the Dons in Mount Florida at the weekend. The trio bossed proceedings from start to finish and if they can reproduce anything like that form then the Germans could be in for a tough night.

Up front, Rodgers will keep faith will all three men who produced goals on Saturday. Maeda - who hit a superb treble and also turned provider for his compatriot Kyogo's strike - will occupy the left flank. German winger Kuhn's campaign just gets better and better with every passing game. He will relish this outing against his fellow countryman no doubt and it is the ideal stage to add to his ever-increasing and impressive tally of goals and assists which totals 17 goal involvements and counting (seven goals and 10 assists). Those are incredible statistics for a player who will be deployed on the right wing once again and asked to wreak havoc.

Celtic are in with more than a fighting chance in this one. If they can wake up on Wednesday morning with seven points after four games then they may well have one foot in the knockout stages. Rodgers' side will win a five-goal thriller.

Strap yourselves in. A raucous Celtic Park on Bonfire night. Celtic and their supporters will have cause to remember, remember this 5th November for years to come.

Tony's team: Schmeichel; Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Valle; McGregor, Engels, Hatate; Kuhn, Kyogo, Maeda.
